Summer

It’s almost time to get ready for the summer and as always in Barcelona it gets extremely hot during the summer months, so I have a few simple tips on how to stay hydrated that I wanted to share…

My favourite summer treats;

Frozen yoghurt with strawberries and kiwi;  it’s not the most healthy but it is probably a little bit healthier then icecream + you can choose to have it with fresh fruits that also hydrates the body for example kiwi that contains a lot of water and vitamin C (supergood for the skin as well).

Pinapple and watermelon; it’s super hydrating and it’s good to have it prepared in portions in a tupperware in the fridge (ready to go) so you can bring it to work or to the beach.

Banana icecream; cut a banana or two in pieces and leave it in a tupperware in the freezer, and when it’s frozen or “half frozen” take it out and put it in a mixer or blender and you can make your own healthy banana icecream.

Ice cafe latte; just pour a few icecubes in your afternoon coffee, (or if you do have a shaker even better) and this way it’s more refreshing to get your daily caffeine. The ideal is to mix the ice with the coffee in a blender to get it smooth, but if you don’t have the time icecubes works just fine.

Grapes; put green or blue grapes in a plastic box in the freezer and have as afternoon snack for those days when it’s just too hot outside. I promise it will be your favourite summer snack, cold and sweet 🙂

Coconut water; they do sell it in more shops now than before so it’s easy to find (even in a regular supermarket, and even in Lidl!), it contains a lot of potassium as well so it is the perfect summer drink to get extra hydrated and recovered if you maybe do some sports or just have been too long in the sun.

Favourite routine of staying fresh;

Drinking plenty of water every day (keep a bottle with you so you are aware how much water you drink every day)! I usually try to drink my 8 glasses of water but in the summer I tend to drink more iceteas and juices or other cold drinks but water is definitely more hydrating then any other sugary drinks. You can also put some slices of lemon or cucumber to get a nice taste of the water.

Washing your face with icecold water in the morning and ending the shower with one minute of cold water, (especially good for the hair to get shiny). (I only do this is in the summer though).

Having baby wipes in your bag as they are actually useful for everything and they also have a better smell than regular wipes , (I use them for my face, neck and hands when I feel sticky or just sweaty.)

C-vitamin spray for the face; (I love the Vitamin C spray from Body Shop), the best is to keep it cold before you put it in your bag so when you are at the metro or at the beach you can spray it in your face and get that fresh feeling! I feel that it also gives some kind of glow to the face 🙂

Victoria secret body spray; I love the coconut one I have as it gives me summerfeelings (I use it all year around). The body spray is a bit “lighter” than perfume and easy to take with you in your bag.

Bringing a parasol to the beach (is necessary at least for me). I love being on the beach but there always comes a moment when I think the sun is too strong and it’s just too hot, and if you don’t wanna go home it’s better to bring a parasol with you so you can stay all day at the beach but without getting too much sun:)

Use a abanico; I do feel like a typical older Spanish lady using this kind of fan, but I have to say that they really work and I think they look kind of cute, so this year I will definitely buy one in a nice summer colour.

Tuesday

This morning we had such a beautiful sunrise whilst I made my morning coffee, it looked like a little heart between the buildings;

So yesterday I finally started the gym and it was such a easy thing to do! Sometimes I think that the more I overthink about one thing, the more energy it takes then actually doing what I should do 🙂 I have to say that even though I am not in the best shape right now, I actually don’t feel so bad about it. I will just take it step by step, and day by day I will feel stronger, healthier and have more energy. Today was my second day I went with my boyfriend and I felt very motivated and full of energy!

After the gym and supermarket I made a fast kale salad with salmon, honeydressing, sunflowerseeds and goatcheese, and had some pistachios on the side, super yummie!

Things I am into right now

Converse shoes; after the winter it’s always nice to wear sneakers again and I love my blue and white converse shoes, they are comfortable and match with so many outfits. I especially love white converse, they are timeless sneakers and match with everything without looking too sporty.

Coconut oil; I use it for almost everything, in smoothies, as frying oil, as face- and hairmask, as makeup remover and for so many other things. It’s superhealthy and so convenient to have at home and also works for both baking and cooking.

 

 

Salads; Everyone knows how healthy it is to eat greeny leafes but not everyone likes salad a lot, (I used to be one of them). Now I eat more salad then ever due to that I started to mix different cheeses, dried fruits, nuts and dressings to mix a tasty salad that is not only healthy but that actually has a lot of calories that makes you feel full.

Squats; there is a 9 minute video I like from youtube and it’s so easy to do at home. I also downloaded a app with a 30 day squat challenge so I can easily follow how many squats to do per day. It’s almost summer so time to start the challenge tomorrow 😉

Take away coffee/tea mug; I love those take away mugs so you can prepare your coffee or tea at home and take it with you to work or to the beach maybe 🙂

Beachwalks; living so close to the beach and with this nice weather it’s time to start powerwalking again 🙂

Nuts; for the moment I am very addicted to pistachios, which is really good because they are superhealthy and contains a lot of iron and antioxidants!

Banana icecream

A healthy icecream option I make sometimes is homemade banana icecream. It’s delicious and has only one ingredient; bananas! It’s so easy and you only need three things to make it: 1: riped bananas (due to they have more flavour), 2: a plastic box for the freezer, 3: a handmixer or a blender. I always cut the bananas in small pieces and put in the freezer and when they are more or less frozen I use a handmixer because it goes faster (and less dishes) and I just mix until it has a creamy consistent and then it’s ready to eat 🙂 I think it taste lovely on it’s own, but it’s possible to add cacao, coconut or whatever flavour you want to add. Tonight’s dessert 🙂

Home

This morning I woke up with a cold so I have been home today just relaxing. I started my day at 7 with hot lemon and honey and after I did a smoothie with oatmilk, banana, frozen berries (all kinds), turmeric, cinnamon, coconutoil and chiaseeds to boost my immunesystem a little. Then I went to the supermarket to buy some salad for lunch and strawberries as they are loaded with c-vitamins (and perfect with dark chocolate). Now it’s time for Netflix and a cup of tea and maybe a episode of the good wife if I manage to keep my eyes open 🙂

Avocado smoothie

A healthy smoothie I’ve really fallen for is avocado and banana smoothie with almondmilk. It’s the most simple to make, one banana, one or 2 glasses of almondmilk and a half avocado (or a whole one if it’s small). It taste more like a dessert than a drink and it taste naturally sweet so no need at all to add any sugar. It is a perfect combination of vitamins and the avocado makes my skin supersoft as well.

Smoothie

Im a real fan of smoothies. When I met my boyfriend I practically lived on smoothies. He knows I like it so much he gave me a blender as I only had a handmixer which is also very good but its so much easier to blend frozen berries in a real glassblender.

Its healthy, easy and fast to prepare. Sometimes after work when Im super hungry I just mix a banana and almondmilk and its done! Then I can continue to make dinner with more energy. You can blend anything from avocados, papaya, frozen berries and mix with your favourite drink whether its soy, almondmilk, milk, water or juice. Its so easy and energizing! It also taste extra good when drinking from a marmelade glass cup 🙂
